The blood sprayed the cement as I stepped back, flexing my hands as the body slid down the wall, the fucker’s hands on his neck trying to ebb the flow as he crumpled to the wet ground, and bending down, I wiped my knife against the piece of shit’s jacket as I met his look of terror one final time before he was dead.

Spitting on his corpse, I looked around to see how my guys were doing. Matteo was rubbing his jaw, and having seen the punch he took, the way he was currently rubbing at it, I knew he was checking to see if it was broken.

“You good?” I called to him as I heard gunfire, and both of us ducked. He gave me a wide grin before he winced.

“Think it’s just cracked,” he told me as he ran towards me, keeping low. “Thought the intel was that we were clear?”

Grinning back at him, I slipped a fresh clip into my 9mm and looked towards the fire exit. We were in a warehouse, and shit had gone bad as soon as we walked into it. Our intel had told us the shipments were due tomorrow, and on a hunch, I had taken three of my guys to check it out. Something at the marina wasn’t right, and I knew why when I walked in here and interrupted a fucking sale with our product between our runners and a competitor. They had run, but the runners hadn’t been so quick thinking, and when one of them shot at me, it’d been outright carnage.

“Where’s Tomo and Dom?” I asked Matteo, and he pointed upwards where the gunfire was coming from. “They went to the roof?” I asked him, and he nodded once. “Fuck.” I considered it. “Stay behind me. I don’t think we’re clear down here, and for fuck’s sake, if it moves, shoot it.”

Matteo chuckled as he followed me as we hugged the walls and ran to the stairs leading upwards. As we started up them, a shot narrowly missed me, embedding into the corrugated sheet metal as I reared back and swung my gun, shooting into the darkness.

Matteo shot too, and we ran up the stairs. Halfway up, the door opened, and a body came hurtling through it. As we jumped out of the way, I yelled, grabbing the arm as it flailed past me. “Fuck!” Matteo grabbed Tomo and held him upright, and as he shook his head to clear it, wiping the blood from his face, we edged upwards. “How many?” I asked him.

He looked groggy and fucked up, but he understood what I asked. “Three, Dom’s boxed in,” he slurred, and I guessed he had a concussion.

“You got him?” I asked Matteo, and he nodded as he supported Tomo. Running up the rest of the stairs, I cautiously opened the fire exit door, and hearing the shots and knowing they weren’t aiming at the door, I slipped through. Keeping low, I crossed the roof, seeing the three fuckers crouched low behind some crates.
